Shiggaon: Parents on Thursday staged a protest in front of the field inspector’s office demanding education in English medium for all children admitted to the Government Model Kannada boys’ school.

Speaking on the occasion, JDS Nagar unit president Sanjeeva Mannanawar said more than 80 students were enrolled in Government Model School with the intention of getting English medium education and teachers would be interested in the students by doing two-part tutoring as 37 students.

The state government has said that only 30 students will be enrolled in the English medium in proportion to the state’s 30: 1 teacher-student ratio. Not all children enrolled in this medium receive English medium classes. He said the new ratio order would be unfair to the remaining students.

Chief Minister Kumaraswamy urged the chief ministers through the Head of the Department, Sivananda Hela, to take immediate steps to educate all students who have been admitted to the English medium. The parents of Ravi Madiwalara, Basavaraja Kalbara, Ravi Mavura, Nururamada, Dharmana, Parshuram, Sarita Madiwala, Sundarabai Kalala, Ningappa Mallura, Sheikhappa Malagi were present at the event.
